Welcome to the official website of the first UK National Point-of-Care Ultrasound Congress 2008 (NPoCUS2008). This event will be held at the prestigious Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts on the beautiful NewcastleGateshead Quayside. The Baltic has been nick-named 'the Tate of the North' and provides a stunning environment for NPoCUS2008!

Clinicians, from specialties such as emergency medicine, critical care, anaesthetics, acute medicine and surgical, wanting to know more about how ultrasound can help them at the patient's side often are poorly accommodated at main specialty congresses. NPoCUS2008 aims to give clinicians insight and practical skills in a variety of point-of-care ultrasound applications. There are many studies demonstrating the benefits of using ultrasound in your practice. This area of practice development will continue to play an increasing role in patient care.

There is a huge need to train clinicians in point-of-care ultrasound techniques: at NPOCUS2008 we understand this and have introduced the 'Course-within-a-Congress' programme. Registering on this programme is no extra charge and will provide the delegate with an accredited course completion certificate in addition to the opportunity to see speakers who are world experts in their field as you would expect for such a congress. We have the following pre-congress and 'Course-within-a-Congress' courses:

  • - Level 1 (FAST/AAA/vascular access/heart in cardiac arrest) accredited by the CEM
  • - Echocardiography for Emergency Medicine and Critical Care
  • - Shock Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine and Critical Care

Join Dr Vicki Noble from Massachusetts General Hospital and see how the ACUSON P10 could change ultrasound in emergency medicine for you.

This event is non-profit making and will be the first collaboration of it's kind between specialties where ultrasound is playing an increasing role. NPoCUS has been kindly supported by the College of Emergency Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists, Intensive Care Society, BMUS, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Regional Anaesthesia Society of Great Britain and Ireland, University of Teesside and all major ultrasound manafacturers.
